cuidar is a word that belongs everywhere, actually. we can take care of ourselves, each other, the enviromnent, our homes, our communities...it embraces an unending list of things, people, thoughts, and feelings. i think that taking care of something or someone is one of the gifts we give to the world, a gift that makes the world a better place to live, and a gift that is as personal as it gets. taking care of must come from the heart, of course, or it means very little that's positive. certainly, we can go thru the motions of taking care of something or someone, but if that caring doesn't come from our heart, it's pretty superficial, and superficiality doesn't have a lot of depth or truth.
living in mexico gives us a chance to care for people and things that are new and different to us, which brings new and different experiences to our heads and hearts. it's a learning experience to care for something different, because, while we may know how to care for something with which we are familiar, we must research and learn how to care for something outside our norm. and learning broadens us as human beings, which helps bring us together in our world community. can that ever be a bad thing?
this week, if you care or dare, take the time to cuidar, whether it's a person, a thing, a feeling, yourself, whatever. enjoy!
